THE LITANY OF THE
SACRED HEART OF JESUS
The Chaplet of the Litany of the Sacred Heart of Jesus consists of a main chaplet of 33 beads, for the 33 years of Jesus' life and ministry on earth. On the pendant is a set of 4 beads consisting of one large bead and three small beads.
At the end of the pendant is a medal depicting the Sacred Heart of Jesus, entwined with thorns and aflame with love for us, as was revealed to Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque beginning in 1673. This image of His heart symbolized His love,
His infinite love, and He wanted her to help to spread the understanding of His love throughout all the world.
How can we be so indifferent? Even those of us who love Him are seldom on fire, whereas we should desire to burn with the same fire shown in His Sacred Heart.

On the medal or Crucifix begin, and pray the introduction:
Lord, have Mercy. (Lord, have mercy.)
Christ, have mercy. (Christ, have mercy.)
Lord, have mercy. (Lord, have mercy.)
Jesus, hear us. (Jesus graciously hear us.)
On the first three small beads, pray:
God, the Father of Heaven, have mercy on us.
God, the Son, Redeemer of the world, have mercy on us.
God, the Holy Spirit, have mercy on us.
On the large bead, pray:
Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy on us.
Begin the chaplet, and pray one attribute of the Sacred Heart of Jesus per bead, and after each attribute add, "Have mercy on us."

On the large bead pray:
Jesus, meek and humble of heart, touch our hearts and make them like your own.
On the medal, pray:
Father, we rejoice in the gifts of love that we have received fron the heart of Jesus, your son.
Open our hearts to share His life and continue to bless us with His love. We ask this in the name of Jesus the Lord.
